Our Impact
MCP provides personal opportunities for people to meet as equal partners across nations and languages, to support the development of world citizenship at the grassroots level.
mayana community Project
We work with the Mayana community year-round, supporting locals in running projects and programmes to improve education, nutrition, health, and business development aiming for sustainability and independence.
EDUCATIONAL OFFERS FOR EVERYONE
We offer project trips and a wide array of educational opportunities for students, as well as people of all ages and walks of life, to share their skills and knowledge with the Mayana Community.
Our Programme Areas
Education
We are first and foremost an educational organization, so education is an important aspect of all programmes and projects, always with independence and sustainability in mind. Some of our educational programmes include:
Mayana Meho Kindergarten
Educational Funding Support
We provide funds for Mayana community members to further their education in return for contributing to their community, so that personal educational developments benefit the whole community. Funding education that fits the candidate's abilities, qualifications and the community’s needs, provides sustainable improvements for both the candidate and the community.
Nutrition
We believe an empty stomach does not like to learn. We provide the following programmes and projects in the area of nutrition:
MEHO Kindergarten Feeding Scheme
The feeding scheme aims to improve the nutrition of the children attending the Mayana Meho Kindergarten. At home, many children receive only one meal a day: a dinner of millet porridge. The children currently receive the following locally-produced foods:
Two bread rolls to provide carbohydrates, every day, supplied by a local baker
An egg to provide protein, once a week, supplied by the Mayana Meho Chicken House
Vegetable/Chicken soup to provide vitamins and protein, every Friday before they go home for the weekend
Fruits, like mango and guava, whenever they are in season grown in the Orchard at the Mayana Meho Guesthouse.
Soon: Spinach and other vegetables to provide vitamins, partially grown in hydroculture
The teachers monitor the well-being of each child by taking the childrens’ height and weight monthly. Children who are experiencing malnutrition or at risk receive additional food.
DISASTER RELIEF FUND
The disaster relief fund provides programme/project leaders in Mayana with essential foods when food security is at risk due to disasters, like droughts and pests. As subsistence farmers, the people of Mayana depend largely on their harvests to survive. The disaster relief fund provides each member with essential food items including maize meal, beans, soup stock, sugar, tea, and cooking oil.
Health
We prioritize health, as it provides the ability to adapt to change and challenges throughout life.
business development
Business development creates personal livelihoods and supports projects that benefit the whole community.
Independence & Sustainability
Independence and sustainability are the ultimate goal of all of our projects and programmes.
Our Concept: The House Model
Nutrition forms the foundation, as it provides sustainability and an empty stomach does not like to learn.
Health forms one wall, as it provides the
ability to adapt to change and challenges
throughout life.
Independence, which identifies opportunities and creates value, is represented by windows and doors.
Business development forms another wall, as it creates personal livelihoods and supports projects that support the whole community.
Education forms the roof under which
everything comes together.
Our Strategy:
School Feeding Scheme
The feeding scheme aims to improve the nutrition of the Meho Kindergarten kids. At home, many children receive only one meal a day: a dinner made out of millet. To counteract malnutrition, the children receive bread rolls with peanut butter and eggs. On Fridays, they receive noodle or chicken soup. The bread rolls and noodles are produced by a local business woman and the eggs and chicken meat are sourced from our chicken house of 40 layer hens. We are currently working on extending the feeding scheme with a vitamin line through spinach and sweet potato production. The teachers monitor the wellbeing of each child by taking regular upper arm measurements. To further improve the health of the kindergarten kids, the local Sit & Knit group produces scarves, hats, jerseys and socks for the children in the winter time.

The 5 W’s of MCP
MCP is entirely volunteer-run. It is made up of a small group of people of various ages and professions, committed to a big vision: to provide personal opportunities for people to meet as equal partners across nations and languages and to support the development of “world citizenship”, starting at the grass-roots level.
MCP e.V. is a registered, non-profit organisation founded in Heidelberg, Germany and working with the people of Mayana, a village near Rundu in northern Namibia. Mayana is a small village on the banks of the Okavango river in the very north of Namibia made up of former Angolan refugees and native Namibians, the community faces challenges like droughts, poverty, HIV, and unemployment.
MCP is based in Heidelberg, Germany and focuses its efforts in Mayana, Namibia. Our participants, donors, and supporters are from all around the world.
MCP. e.V. was officially founded in June 2010. Members of the Heidelberg International School (H.I.S.) community were instrumental in its formation.
MCP is the realisation of a vision of a teacher and a student to connect with people across nations, language, and culture on a personal level. It is first and foremost an educational organisation, continuing to maintain those connections made with Mayana over the last decade, support the community in Mayana to develop at a grassroots level, and provide opportunities for interested students and parties to commit to a project and grow these connections across borders.
By offering annual project trips to Mayana and by working with the people of Mayana to support development at a grassroots level. MCP e.V. provides opportunity for International Baccalaureate (IB) students to undertake a three week Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) trip to Mayana as well as invites other interested parties to join an annual Friends Trip. A group of local members run year-round projects in Mayana, supported financially by fundraising in Germany and beyond.
